There is a strained relationship between Kate and Prince Harry, her brother-in-law. It suggests that they were once very close, with Kate playing a role as a peacemaker within the Royal Family, notably bringing Prince William and Prince Harry together after Prince Philip's funeral in 2021. According to Prince Harry, there were signs of discord between Meghan and Kate when Meghan was introduced into royal life, particularly during a bridesmaid dress dispute in 2018, which left both women in tears. In the book, Prince Harry also claimed that Meghan found Kate and Prince William a bit "cold" when they first met.

However, Harry claimed that Meghan's manner of applying the gloss and Kate's reaction to it, described as a "disgusted" face, contributed to the tension between the two.
