Meghan Markle remains silent on actors' strike as rumours swirl over her and Harry's Netflix deal

Meghan Markle received a public offer of support from her union following her Oprah interview in 2021. However, she has reportedly not publicly addressed or shown support for the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike in the US, despite her previous association with the acting union.

There could potentially be a conflict of interest for Meghan Markle due to her lucrative contract with Netflix, a streaming giant that is reportedly not cooperating with the striking actors and writers.

The strike has been ongoing since July 14, with major studios and streaming services being affected. A-list stars like Colin Farrell, Jamie Lee Curtis, and Jessica Chastain are reportedly participating in the strike, advocating for better working conditions, increased base pay, fair streaming residuals, and protection against the potential replacement of their work by artificial intelligence.

During Meghan Markle's interview with Oprah Winfrey, she mentioned missing her union membership and the protection it provided when she became a royal. She expressed a need for help, possibly alluding to the challenges and lack of support she faced in her new role.

During the interview, SAG-AFTRA, the union to which Meghan Markle was once a member, came out in support of her in a tweet, expressing their solidarity and belief in the importance of union protection for everyone.

However, it seems that Meghan Markle has not publicly shown similar support for the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike, which has been taking place since July 14, affecting Hollywood productions and involving A-list stars calling for improved working conditions and fair compensation, among other demands.

The potential conflict of interest arises due to Meghan Markle's lucrative contract with Netflix, one of the streaming giants that reportedly refuse to cooperate with the striking actors and writers.

Last month, when the Duke and Duchess of Sussex's Spotify deal was cancelled, rumours circulated that the Netflix deal they signed in 2020 could meet the same fate. But the streaming platform spoke out in support of the couple, saying: 'The bond with Archewell Productions is one we deeply value. 'Our exciting journey with them isn't ending any time soon.'
