Suffering from Ulcers? Treat them with these Natural Remedies

Gastric ulcers (stomach ulcers or peptic ulcers) are open sores within the stomach lining or duodenum. Stomach ulcers develop when stomach acid irritates the stomach lining. The most common cause of stomach ulcers is the bacterium called Helicobacter pylori or H. pylori.

Ulcers might also be due to the overuse of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) like ibuprofen, aspirin, and naproxen. If a person has ulcers, they may experience the following:

  • Nausea
  • Weight loss
  • Bloating
  • Heartburn
  • Burning sensation in the stomach
  • Persistent pain for hours

You can treat stomach ulcers with antibiotics and medications to reduce and block stomach acid. In addition to this, some research shows that some natural remedies may help manage stomach ulcers. The following are some examples.

Yogurt

Most yogurts contain active cultures (lactobacillus and bifidobacterium) that might help digestion. When taken alongside other treatments, these yogurts may help eradicate harmful bacteria.

Cruciferous vegetables

These include; broccoli, Brussels sprouts, cauliflower, and kale. All these vegetables contain sulforaphane, a chemical that seems to squelch H. pylori. In one study, after patients that tested positive for the bacteria ate a half cup of broccoli sprouts twice daily for seven days, 78% tested negative for bacteria.

Eating a cup of broccoli, steamed or, raw will not only combat your ulcers but will provide additional vitamin C.

Cabbage

Cabbage has astonishing ulcer healing abilities. It contains vitamin C shown to help prevent and treat H. pylori infections. Try eating two cups of raw cabbage daily or make a super potent juice or cut the cabbage, boil it in water for a few minutes, cool it until it is just warm, and drain the water into a cup and drink.

You can also mix fresh cabbage juice with fresh raspberry juice. The mixture helps soothe and heal ulcers. You can take it two times a day. For an optimal ulcer cure, choose fresh green cabbage.

Castor oil

Stomach ulcers bring a lot of discomforts. However, treatment with castor oil may reduce that pain and inflammation. You can calm a painful ulcer with a glass of warm milk mixed with two teaspoons of castor oil and drink twice or thrice a day or with a castor oil pack applied to your abdomen.

You can also place a towel in castor oil until it is completely saturated. Squeeze the towel to remove any extra oil and avoid dripping. Cover the painful area on your abdomen, top with a dry towel and a hot water bottle for added pressure. Leave this on for one hour.

Aloe Vera juice

Aloe Vera juice has positive effects on the inflamed stomach lining. Drink a few sips before each meal and before sleep. This juice will relieve ulcer pain and promote healing.

Vegetable juices

Vegetable juices, especially green juices from broccoli, kale, spinach, may soothe the stomach and reduce acidity.

Irish potatoes

Irish potato contains vitamin C, which plays a role in the treatment of ulcers. Raw Irish potato is helpful for an ulcerated stomach. Using Irish as a remedy can be used in the following ways:

Method 1

  • You can add a piece of raw Irish potato to the green juice.
  • Add a few pieces of raw Irish potato to hot water, leave it to stand overnight, take a cup of that water in the morning before any meal.
  • Do this until the ulcers are gone.

Method 2

Make juice from Irish potato using warm water. This juice will neutralize the stomach acid and form a barrier to block acid rising into the esophagus and prevent damage to the esophagus itself. Take the juice twice or thrice a week on an empty stomach if your ulcers are not severe and, if they are, you can take them daily before each meal.

Garlic

Not only does garlic spice food but also the antimicrobial and antibacterial properties it has help fight infections. Eating two cloves of raw garlic every day may help prevent and heal stomach ulcers by controlling the levels of H. pylori bacteria in your gut.

You can add two tablespoons of unprocessed honey to chopped fresh garlic and take. The antibacterial properties of honey might help treat ulcers.

Tea

Peppermint and chamomile teas are anti-inflammatories that can soothe your ulcer pain and promote healing. Brew your tea and allow it to cool until it is warm. You can add raw honey and, stir for its antibacterial qualities.

Outline

You can treat stomach ulcers with antibiotics and medications to reduce and block stomach acid. In addition to this, some research shows that some natural remedies may help manage stomach ulcers. You can use the above listed natural remedies to treat ulcers at home.
